The Camping Trip

One day a boy called Kane went camping with his school group to Cooba. Kane had a great time with his friends. On the first day Kane and his school group got off the bus. Kane went to his cabin with seven of his friends, Sam, Wally, Leroy, Ralph, Kai, Larry and Jake. On the first day group one went to do an activity called Earth ball. Group one got split into two teams. There was a big ball that weighed about twenty-five kilograms. The two teams were on a tennis court. One team started with the ball and they had to run to the back of the tennis court and back to the net and throw the ball to the other side of the court. The opposing team had to make sure the ball didn’t touch the ground otherwise Kane’s team got a point. In the end Kane’s team lost.

Then group one walked back to camp and had dinner. For dinner Kane had lasagne, vegies and baked beans on toast. After dinner everyone had a trivia night. The questions were really hard. Then everyone went to bed. On day two, group one went to archery, dune buggies and the big swing. In Dune Buggies everyone got into groups of three. In Kane’s group he had Alison and Ian. First I was the person that used the flags. There were three flags, red, green and yellow. Red meant stop, green meant go and yellow meant go slow. Then Kane had his turn at driving and he did the figure 8 circuit. Then we finished when Ian had his turn at driving. In archery everyone was split into three teams. In the end Kane’s team ended up with 129 points.
Then we had the big swing. The big swing is about 50ft high. Kane waited at the back because he didn’t know how high up he wanted to go. Kane was the last person to have a go and he went up about half way. It was the best time ever!

The Campfire Legend

It was Halloween, 1840 and four kids were having a sleepover. They were playing Truth or Dare. Then one boy, Harry dared another boy, George, to go into the bathroom and say “Bloody Mary” 13 times into a mirror while holding a lit candle. George went in the bathroom with a lit candle. The other boys stood outside the bathroom to make sure he said it.

Then they heard George saying Bloody Mary. “Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary.” The second he finished saying it, the three other boys heard a scream so they opened the door. They all looked inside but there was nothing there. He had disappeared without a trace.

One fine, sunny morning my dad woke me up to say goodbye before he went to work. But before I heard the usual "See ya, buddy." I heard something a little different. "Ahhh!" he screamed. He picked me up with one hand (which was quite unusual) and took me to the bathroom. "Holy Guacamole, I'm a potato!" So he took me back to my room and let me lay there. Then he went to work.

A couple hours later when my mum woke up she thought it was quite unusual that a potato was lying where her son was supposed to be. So she picked me up and took me to the kitchen. "Hey! Where are you taking me! I'm your son! Not a potato." I screamed at her. She just shook her head and put me with all the other potatoes.

Suddenly I heard all the other potatoes talking. "So you're the new guy?" said another potato. "No I'm supposed to be a human!" "So are we, but every kid that lived in that room for more than six months gets turned into a vegetable. There have been turnips, onions, tomatoes, broccoli, celery, cauliflower, bok choy and potatoes. I think someone's coming. Stay still and stop talking." Then my mum picked me up but then I fell out of her hand and started dropping to the floor. "Ahhh!" I screamed. Just as I hit the floor I woke up. It was all a dream.

Spelunking Short Story

Once day I went caving at the Jenolan caves. The caves were over 500 kilometres long. I saw heaps of stalactites and stalagmites but then the bats freaked me out and I ran away from there. I was running but then there was a huge hole that I fell into. “HELP! HELP! IS ANYONE THERE! HELP!” I screamed. I jumped and jumped but I couldn’t get up. Then a man saw me and helped me up. I said thankyou and then I kept on running. I saw the end of the Jenolan caves but then I heard a rumbling sound. The caves were collapsing! I saw some rocks starting to fall from the roof of the cave. I ran as fast as I could and jumped and made it out. But then I remembered I had to go out the same way I came in. “Aw, man!” I said.

For my winter project I am sanding back and painting an outdoor chair. This outdoor chair is about 70cm tall, 150cm long and 60cm long from the side.

This session my dad showed me how to use an electric sander. Then I sanded the all the small bits of wood and the two long pieces of wood on the sides. The next session I used sandpaper to get to the hard to reach places and the bits I couldn't sand with the electric sander. On the next session I got back to work with the sandpaper. I sanded the bottom of it and then sanded the legs. The next session I fixed the wheel because it snapped in half. Then I did a quick sand. Next session I painted the top and sides of the chair. Then I painted all the places I missed that weren't on the bottom. On the next session I painted the bottom and finished painting for the first coat. On the next session I did the final coat and finished all together.

The Owl and the Pussy-Cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea-green boat:
They took some honey, and plenty of money
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.

And sang to a small guitar,
"O lovely Pussy, O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,

Beijing Mascots Cloze Exercise

The Olympic mascots in Beijing are very unique. Each has a different quality and represents different sports. The first mascot, Beibei, design a fish and it represents aquatic sports. Jingjing is a panda and represents judo, weightlifting and any other sport that was left. The next one is Huanhuan and he looks like the Olympic flame and represents ball sports. Yingying is a Tibetan antelope and has the honour of representing all track and field sports. The last one is Nini. Her design is a swallow and represents gymnastics.

Simon Says

Someone is Simon and they have to say Simon says... e.g. Simon says jump up and down. If Simon doesn't say Simon says and someone does that they are out e.g. Hop on one foot. Continue with the game until a couple of people are left. If there is one person left at the end, they are Simon for the next game. If everyone is out at the end the adult in charge chooses someone to be Simon.

The Dark Crystal Film Review

Characters:

· Jen
· Kira
· Aughra
· Fizzgig
· The Mystics
· The Skeksis
· Garthims
· Plane Striders
· Podlings
· Crystal Bats

psis

This story is about a Gelfling called Jen. He is sent from the Mystics to find the crystal shard and put it into the dark crystal. Along the way, he teams up with Kira, a fellow Gelfling that helps him get to the castle of the Skeksis, and where the Dark Crystal is.

My Opinion

I think this movie was funny because Fizzgig got thrown into a pit with lava in it, the Mystics making funny noises, and two of the Skeksis emperors dying.

My favourite characters are The Crystal Bats because Kira hits one with a weapon.

Animation

I think the animation wasn’t extremely good but it wasn’t too bad either.
I give The Dark Crystal 3.5 stars.

Monarch Butterfly Cloze Exercise

The Monarch butterfly is a very interesting creature. Its colours are amazing with black and orange and its ability to eat milkweed is unbelievable. These are just some of the many things of the Monarch butterfly.

When it migrates it can cover 128 km and it can reach up to speeds of 18 km an hour. These insects migrate to warmer places over the winter because it is more comfortable.

When flying it travels 5 - 6 metres above the Earth’s ground. This is about the height of 2 and a half Mr Mcs. Although it can’t go above the ground when it is a caterpillar, it truly is a magnificent sight.

Monarch Butterfly Facts

Milkweed is the only thing the larvae can eat.

It has been in Australia since 1871.

The monarch butterfly’s wingspan is in between 8.9–10.2 centimetres.

They are poisonous because the caterpillars ingest it when they eat the milkweed.

They live in open habitats including fields and meadows.

They are also known as the wanderer butterfly.

Make Mine Slime

You can make your own cornflour slime to learn about fluids and viscosity. To do this you will need:

cornflour
food colouring
a small mixing bowl
water

What to do:

1. Pour some cornflour into the mixing bowl.
2. Stir in small bits of water until the cornflour has become a very thick glue.
3. To make the slime the colour of your choice, thoroughly stir about five drops of food colouring into the mixture.
4. Stir your slime REALLY slow. This shouldn't be hard to do.
5. Stir your slime REALLY quickly. This should be close to impossible.
6. Now punch your slime REALLY hard and fast. It should feel like you're punching a solid.

What's happening:

Anything that flows is called a fluid. This means that both gases and liquids are fluids.

Fluids like water which flow easily are said to have low viscosity, whereas fluids like cold honey which do not flow so easily are said to have a high viscosity.

Cornflour slime is a special type of fluid that doesn't follow the usual rules of fluid behaviour. When a pressure is applied to slime, its viscosity increases and the cornflour slime becomes thicker. At a certain point, slime actually seems to lose its flow and behave like a solid. Cornflour slime is an example of a thickening fluid.

Low Viscosity
